In every major capital-expenditure cycle, the decisive question is not just how fast revenue grows during the shortage phase, but how much net cash and contractual visibility each company accumulates before the next capacity wave comes online in 2027–2028. Reviewing the 3Q26 filings of TSMC, SK Hynix, and Tesla [2][5][8] highlights three distinct capital-cycle positions.

3-Line Summary (As of 2026.10.29):
  • SK Hynix (Net Cash Fortress Ahead of 2027 Yongin Fab Ramp): In 3Q26, SK Hynix generated 104.6155T KRW in revenue and 83.3338T KRW in operating profit (80% OPM), lifting cash to 114.5T KRW (+26.5T QoQ), cutting debt to 15.8T KRW (-2.8T QoQ), and building 98.7T KRW in net cash (+29.3T QoQ) while locking in LTAs for >50% of 2027–2028 capacity before Yongin Phase 1 increases CapEx in 2027.
  • TSMC (Self-Funded $60B–$64B CapEx with 66.4% Gross Margin): TSMC spent US$13.84B on CapEx in 3Q26 (US$40.64B in 1Q–3Q toward its US$60B–$64B annual budget), yet generated NT$476.56B in positive 3Q26 FCF (NT$919.77B OCF minus NT$443.21B CapEx) while guiding 4Q26 revenue to US$52.3B–$54.3B and full-year USD growth to ~44%.
  • Tesla (Liquidity Buffer Financing >$20B AI/Compute CapEx): Despite a 2.6% GAAP operating margin ($718M OP after $2.761B R&D), Tesla generated $6.263B in 3Q26 OCF against $4.732B in CapEx (+$1.531B FCF) and holds $45.45B in cash & short-term investments plus a $30B credit facility to fund its >$20B FY26 CapEx plan (9M cumulative $13.01B, implying ≥$6.99B in 4Q26).
